Plot: High powered lawyer Claire Kubik finds her world turned upside down when her husband, who she thought was Tom Kubik, is arrested and is revealed to be Ron Chapman. Chapman is on trial for a murder of Latin American villagers while he was in the Marines. Claire soon learns that to navigate the military justice system, she’ll need help from the somewhat unconventional Charlie Grimes; meanwhile, Claire’s sister, Jackie, is falling in love with wet-behind-the-ears Lieutenant Embry assigned as the official defense lawyer. And most of the eyewitnesses have rather too conveniently died.

What is the best way to be dismissed of a felony charge?
I am a 21 Year old male that has received stolen property from a friend who has burglarized a house. The item was worth less than $200 and I was unaware that the item was stolen. After holding it for a while I decided to sell it on craigslist. Then a month later I was contacted by detectives and interrogated about where I received the stolen property. After, being held for hours I then told them my friend gave it to me and then they let me go. I was never taken to jail or processed for this crime. Now a few months later I was served a subpoena in the mail but I never received the letter because I moved to Texas due to financial reasons. So now that I failed to appear in court, I am being charged with Trafficking Stolen Property in the 3rd degree of a felony and have a warrant for my arrest in AZ. I found this all out due to a background check performed by an employer, and denied employment because of this felony warrant and charge. I have interest in joining the Navy but now I cant due to this outstanding warrant and charge. I have talked to a Navy recruiter and was told they couldn’t allow me to enter the military until the case is closed. I have no prior criminal history, my credentials consist of a High School Diploma and a Certificate of Completion Diploma from the Phlebotomy Technician Program at Pima Medical Institute. What should I do to prevent this felony charge from going on my record and affecting my career in the medical field and military? Will the courts take into consideration of my clean record, accomplishments and interest in enlisting into the military? I also would like help deciding what criminal attorney I should hire because I have a low income as of right now. I would really like for this charge to be dismissed or expunged/sealed due to my situation and no prior conflicts with the law. Any honest advice will be appreciated but please do not sit there and judge me or leave negative comments. As a matter of fact people do make mistakes in life.

Call the BAR association in AZ, and ask them if any organizations help to provide free or low cost legal help to people in need.

Talk to the recruiter, and find out what kind of conviction you can get, and still join. Will they take you if you plea to a misdemeanor?

Either way, you need to get this cleared up.

you must answer this warrant otherwise it will dog you forever, contact a lawyer and let the lawyer take care of it, do this asap because the longer you wait the worst things will get meaning you can’t do anything till this is answered

First thing you need to do is read the subpoena carefully and be sure you are being charged as a suspect and not seeked as a witness. Now either way you need to take care of this it will not go away because you are being pursued for it. Call the police department where this had taken place and find out what is going on, talk to the detective that first interviewed you. Second make sure you tell him that you had moved out of state prior to being charged so you didn’t know about it, he should have advised you not to leave town with out talking to them first because of the on going investigation. You may have to turn your self in to the police department in your area now, so make sure you talk to the detective first before you do any thing like that. You should know that you will have to return to the city you came from because they have jurisdiction of the crime.
You do have rights so don’t forget that, you have the right to remain silent until you talk to an attorney and if you don’t have one after you are charge and booked you will see the judge, you plead not guilty and being that the amount is as small as it is there is a good chance that he will let you out with a very small bail or none at all, but you have to go through this to get the attorney. Once the judge does his thing you will be given a PD "Public Defender" free of charge. This is part of your Miranda Warning, the right to have counsel for any thing that has any thing to do with this case, remember it is your right.
Now you can work out a deal with the prosecutors office for a lesser charge do to the amount and the fact that you didn’t know that you were going to be charger prior to moving, your friend turned on you and made you look like the one that stole the stuff and now you have to find someone who will back up your account of how you can to have these items in your possession.

Don’t forget or learn your 5th amendment rights.

So don’t forget to call the detective that is handling this case which should be the one you first talk to and see what can be done before you do any thing.
If you are not sure you can always call the Legal Aid society in the city you are in now and ask for help in trying to under stand what is going on and what you should do.
Do it as soon as you can because if you get a pulled over for any thing they will arrest you and send you back to where it is you came from and you will have to find your own way back.
Once you get this stuff straightened out there should be no problems getting into the Armed Forces.
