I baked a 18.96 pound turkey in a glad cooking/baking bag in the oven for 4 hours on 400 degrees. The turkey was partly frozen when gutted and stuffed with stuffing. This is the first year that I have ever purchased a turkey and it did NOT come with a pop up inside of it timer. I have always had them come with those so I did not buy one and I do NOT having a cooking thermometer to temp check it.

Do you think it is cooked? Should I bake it longer? What are your thought? All opinions are welcome.

Thanks a bunch,
Dedicated
Thanks, the turkey recomended at 4 hours, but I heard that while cooking it in a baking bag it takes time off of it because the heat remains inside and it cooks it quicker and more eaisily.
~ Happy Thanksgiving to everyone ~

Well, let’s use some of your senses here.

1. Look at it- is it golden brown, or is it slightly pink? Is it white inside, or pink? If you said yes to one or two of the second answers, cook it for longer. If you answered yes to both of the first answers, it should be done.
2. Touch it- feel the outside. Is it cold, lukewarm, or hot? If it’s cold or lukewarm, back in the oven. Hot, it should be done. Pinch off a little piece. Squeeze it, and if clear juices come out, it’s finished. If pink or red juices come out, wash your hands and cook it longer.

Tip: Bake the turkey according to how much it weighs in pounds. For every pound, cook it for twenty minutes.

Your turkey legs should wiggle easily and when you poke the turkey, the juices should run clear, not pink. From your description, I guess the outter portions of your turkey will be done, but as you cut in deeper, you will find not done parts. Be safe. Happy Thanksgiving!

Do you have a Steel Skewer or something similar as a Thin long Knife, go to where the Leg of the Bird Joins the Body, and Poke a Hole in there, if the Fluid runs out Clear then the Bird is Done, if it runs out Dark and Cloudy, its Not Finished.
